Melbourne Cup 2016

Fun for the Melbourne Cup. Each year, Macquarie, Morgans and PWC analysts roll out of the bean pits to use their skills towards unravelling the mysteries of the Melbourne Cup.

Macquarie have offered the most detailed and consistent analysis with Morgans coming a close second and PWC winning the prize for the prettiest charts and website.

We expected great things from BT Fixed Income team, who unfortunately failed to deliver. They’ve thrown in the towel for this year, but a quick chat with head of BT Fixed Income revealed they’re quietly tipping Oceanographer.

Macquarie’s champagne years have seemingly come to an end with a couple of lean years, but in true investment style, they’ve completely overhauled the analysis and given it a pretty name. Could this be PWC’s time to shine? Only this year’s results will tell…

Remember, an analysts view of the Melbourne Cup means that its not about who’s going to win, but who will provide the best bang for your buck!

Our view

We’re often wary when funds change their name, it may be best to sit back this year and see how they play out.  That being said, our money is on Oceanographer, with a flick of the lucky coin on Wicklow Brave

Good luck to you all and remember that past performance is no indicator of future performance, outside influences such as overly enjoying the weekend may have an impact on the results.
